You're probably very aware that natural stone tiles look beautiful when gracing the interior of your home, but as a natural product, they are just as well suited, if not more so, to making the outside of your home beautiful too. If you've already thought about installing, or have installed, natural stone inside your home, you may want to think about carrying the beauty of stone tiles through to the exterior, too. There are plenty of uses for natural stone; here are just a few of them:
One of the most popular uses for exterior natural stone is through infinity stone flooring. Using the same type of natural stone for interior floors which then flow to outside patios creates a continuous, seamless look for interiors and exteriors alike, helping to open up spaces by bringing the feeling of the outdoors in. There are a variety of stones which can be used both inside and out, such as slate and some limestone. Travertine is a particularly good choice for infinity flooring, as there are a wide range of travertine stone tiles available which can be applied to both interior flooring and as outside paving.
The obvious choice for natural stone applied externally is a patio. There are a huge range of stone tiles for use in patios, and natural stone requires very little maintenance. From durable flagstone paving which won't crack in extreme weather conditions through to beautiful sandstone which is perfect for decorative work such as circular designs, there is plenty of choice for the modern garden.
Stone cladding may not be as popular as it once was, but there has recently been a resurgence in modern wall cladding. Today's cladding is much more sleek than that of days gone by, and stone tiles designed for cladding tend to be small strips of stacked natural stone to create a design statement. Alternatively, if you live in a rural home, how about irregular stone tiles of different sizes to create a unique, country-cottage-clad look?
Natural stone for exteriors can also be creative: how about a sleek natural stone bench, carved from just one piece of stone? Or the chic look of bullnose-sawn sandstone steps, which wouldn't look out of place in the fanciest of gardens, plush hotels or commercial properties? From coping stones for swimming pools through to pier caps to finish an exterior wall, there is a type of natural stone to suit every garden.
